Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Social Care

Overview:

The unit introduces the importance of communication in adult social care settings, and ways to overcome barriers to meet individual needs and preferences in communication. The unit is aimed at those who are interested in, or new to working in social care settings with adults. To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (QCF) candidates will need to complete 20 credits from 9 mandatory units (201 – 209).

Learning outcomes:

There are four learning outcomes to this unit. The learner will be able to:

1. Understand why communication is important in adult social care settings.

2. Understand how to meet the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of an individual.

3. Understand how to reduce barriers to communication.

4. Understand confidentiality in adult social care settings.

 

Course Content:

  • Unit 201 Principles of communication in adult social care settings (2 credits)
  • Unit 202 Principles of personal development in adult social care settings (2 credits)
  • Unit 203 Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings (2 credits)
  • Unit 204 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care (3 credits)
  • Unit 205 Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children and young people’s settings (1 credit)
  • Unit 206 Understand the role of the Social Care Worker (1 credit)
  • Unit 207 Understand person centred approaches in adult social care settings (4 credits)
  • Unit 208 Understand health and safety in social care settings (4 credits)
  • Unit 209 Understand how to handle information in social care settings (1 credit)

 

Entry Requirements

Candidates should not be entered for a qualification of the same type, content and level as that of a qualification they already hold.
