Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation

Overview

The electrotechnical industry involves the installation, maintenance and repair of electrotechnical equipment – from installing electrical systems inside a new building to maintaining machinery on a production line. Industry electricians should be good with their hands and able to use a range of tools, good at maths and science and physically fit. With the right qualifications and experience electricians can progress to supervisory or management roles, become self employed or set up their own contracting business.

Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation

What is involved?

Employment, for a minimum of 30 hours per week, with training in both the workplace and at College. Apprentices must be in receipt of at least the minimum wage for apprentices, pro rata for part-time learners. Attendance at College on a regular basis, usually a block release pattern. You will work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ); Key Skills; Employer Rights & Responsibilities; and a Technical Certificate. Qualifications that you have already gained may contribute towards some of the Apprenticeship components.

 

What is included in the Apprenticeship?

You will work towards an NVQ Level 3. This will include an embedded Technical Certificate Level 2 & 3 and Functional Skills – Mathematics (Level 2), English (Level 2) and Information Technology (Level 1). You will also complete an extensive practical programme focusing on various system installation techniques. Successful candidates will also take the Achievement Measure 2 test to prove competence.

 

What can you expect?

Tuition to support the underpinning knowledge required for your NVQ. The opportunity to work towards additional qualifications relevant to your employment. Regular monitoring and assessment in both the workplace and at College.

 

How will it be assessed?

There are no formal examinations within the NVQ, as your work will be assessed on an ongoing basis.The Technical Certificate aspects of the course will be assessed by formal examination. Assessment of Functional Skills will consist of gathering a portfolio of evidence and a test.

 

Entry Requirements:

No formal qualifications are required; however it is recommended that candidates have Basic Skills at level 1.
